What is Bubble Tea?

Bubble Tea (also known as Boba Tea) is a tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan. This beverage was created in the 1980s and gained widespread popularity in the United States about a decade later, thanks to Taiwanese immigrants.

Bubble tea typically consists of black or green tea, complemented by fruit or berry juice balls (popping boba) or tapioca pearls, along with fruit and berry syrups. In Latvia, bubble tea made from peppermint tea is also popular, which is not a typical flavor found in Taiwan. Beverages featuring the signature bubble tea ingredients but without tea, such as lemonades, are also common.

In Taiwan, milk bubble teas are also widely consumed. These are primarily based on black or green tea, enhanced with milk powder (available in various flavors) or fresh milk, and alternative milks like almond, coconut, or soy milk can also be used.
